If you’re like me and have embarked on a lifelong journey of learning, growing and developing yourself, you’ve undoubtedly found your favourite ways to do so. Whether it’s reading, audiobooks, seminars, courses, blogs, or articles, continuous and consistent learning will lead you down the path to greatness.

I would highly recommend podcasts. Podcasts are a great way to take a specific topic and really drill down to its core. You can really explore a topic to its fullest. It’s important to find the right podcasts. If you are interested in personal finance, do some research and find which ones are the most popular. Start listening to them and find the one or maybe two for you.

There are great podcasters out there who have hundreds of hours of podcasts just waiting for you to devour. They give lesson after lesson on the topic you are interested in. And it’s all for free, just waiting for you to discover.

Podcasts are great because you can listen to them wherever you go or whatever you’re doing. You can listen in the car, at work, on walks, while cleaning, or really any activity. Just put in your headphones and get to learning.

I personally listen to podcasts every day on Spotify. I set it up so that new episodes automatically download and are ready for me when I’m ready to listen. If I find a podcast that I absolutely love, I will download every previous episode and start from the beginning. I can’t get enough. It’s all out there waiting for you to discover.

Here are my top 5 podcasts that I listen to on a consistent basis.

REAL AF with Andy Frisella

My #1 podcast. Andy’s mindset is that “personal excellence is the ultimate rebellion”. If you’re looking for a podcast on personal development, business, mindset, discipline, fitness, inspiration and mental toughness, this podcast is for you.

If you’re tired with the way your life is going…

If you’re tired with the current state of the world…

If you’re tired of being mediocre and average…

This podcast is for you.

Weekly Motivation by Ben Lionel Scott

When you embark on a journey of personal development, you will run into days that you aren’t going to want to do the things that you know you have to do to succeed. In fact, most days will be like this.

I use this podcast to help push through those dark days. Those days where you just want to be lazy. Those workouts that I don’t want to do. Those feelings of inadequacy and self doubt.

Press play on one episode. They’re short, motivational, inspirational podcasts to give you that kick in the butt on days where you think you don’t have anything left. I promise you do.

This podcast has helped me tremendously to stay focused, stay hungry and keep going.

Bedros Keuilian Podcast Show

“Average is the enemy. Success is your responsibility. Change can take place in an instant once you decided to flip the switch”

Bedros has hundreds of episodes on how to win at life. He focuses on the 4F’s. Fitness. Finance. Family. Faith.

I love the podcast because Bedros agrees with my personal belief that success starts with you. How you do one thing is how you do everything. Everything is connected. The skills you develop from taking care of your body, will carry over to taking care of your finances. Which will carry over to every other aspect of success, regardless of what it is.

I talk about this a lot in my book, The Daily Mission. Getting in shape is not just about looking good. It’s about developing the habits, discipline, consistency and momentum to build your body. And these traits carry over to everything else worth doing in life. It’s all connected. It’s why people will say, “She’s so naturally talented” or “He’s good at everything.” No, it’s because they develop and hone those traits and use them in every aspect of life.

Budget Nerds

You need to start taking control of your money. I’m a huge proponent of the app YNAB for taking control of your finances. The podcast makes personal finance/budgeting entertaining and fun, which is a pretty tall endeavour.

YNAB’s Four Rules (from their website):

  • Rule One: Give Every Dollar a Job
This rule is key to the YNAB Method. Work only with the money you have on hand, asking yourself, “What does this money need to do before more money arrives?” Then, prioritize those dollars by giving each and every one of them a job.
  • Rule Two: Embrace Your True Expenses
Large, less frequent expenses are the ones that can catch you off guard. Think car registration or annual insurance premiums. You can prepare for these by following Rule Two. Find a big, infrequent expense, create a target to fund it monthly, and feel much more prepared whenever that expense arrives.
  • Rule Three: Roll With the Punches
Life happens. Priorities and expenses can change. Your YNAB spending plan can and should change, too, right along with your new situation. Just look at your current plan, free up some money, and move along with your life. By following Rule Three, you’ll know you’re making sound, informed decisions about your finances.
  • Rule Four: Age Your Money
As you follow the first three rules, money will begin to accumulate in your bank accounts. In YNAB terms, this is known as Aging Your Money. The older you can age your money, the more security, flexibility, and options you will have. And, once your money is 30 days old, you’ll be using last month’s pay for this month’s expenses! What a win!

Muscle for Life with Mike Matthews

My #1 source of everything health, fitness and nutrition is Mike Matthews. He is a trusted, no nonsense, no bullshit, no fad diets, science based source of knowledge. He has thousands of hours of podcasts. His website, Legion Athletics, also has tons of articles and information on the subject. If you have a question about fitness, health or nutrition, Matthews has almost certainly answered it in article, book or podcast form.
