I have to tell you the story of one of my fitness clients. His story is inspiring, motivating and amazing.
He started working with me at the beginning of August 2025.
40 years old. 257 pounds. 36% body fat. Bad back. PTSD from his years of service in the RCMP. Medically retired.
Dad. Husband. Determined to make positive changes to his health, fitness and mental health.
I had worked with him in the RCMP 12 years prior to us reconnecting for this fitness journey. When he signed up for fitness coaching, he was at least 80 pounds heavier than the man I used to know.
He has been amazing to work with. His mental toughness, resilience and determination is infectious and inspiring. From Day 1, he has shown up and put in the work.
First, the numbers.
He has hit his step goal 96 out of 100 days. His step goal is 12000.
He has drank 3L’s of water 93 out of 100 days.
He has worked on his mobility 65 days in a row!
But here’s the amazing part…
In early September, he dislocated his shoulder. Yet another obstacle.
Most people would have given up. He didn’t.
He messaged me that day and said, “Whatever, it’s a setback. But not the end. I can still get in my steps, cardio, and hit my diet. It’s just a new challenge. One more thing to crush and be proud of after. You’ll see.”
He had every excuse to pack it in. He struggles every day with PTSD. He doesn’t sleep well. Medications cause his weight loss to be inconsistent, despite putting in all the work.
But he persevered. He never gave up.
He continues to rehab the shoulder while getting back in the gym. He won’t quit.
I am proud to call him a friend. I am so very proud of him.
When times are tough in your life, what do you do?
Do you pack it in? Do you quit? Do you say, “why me”?
When tough times come..When a setback occurs..When you fail…
…Remember what he said to me on the day he dislocated his shoulder. Yet another thing on his list that he could have complained about or used as an excuse to quit.
“It’s just a new challenge. One more thing to crush and be proud of after. You’ll see.”
