Tomorrow is not guaranteed. All we have is today, so let’s focus on just one day and make it the best day possible. Every day should be seen as a gift. It is up to you to figure out what you want your day to look like. This is your daily mission. A day that will bring you the most happiness, the most growth and a day that will give you sense of peace. You get to decide what you focus your time on and what you don’t. You get to decide what will help you grow as a person and what won’t.

At the end of the day, this is your life and you are responsible for what happens in it. You are the lead character in this story. I like to plan my day and make a list every morning of what I want to accomplish and what I want to do that day. Most days are identical for me. Go to the gym, play guitar, go for a walk, read, write, drink coffee, play video games, hang out with my wife, play with my kids, etc. Some of these things bring me pure joy, while others give me discipline. At the end of the day, I feel at peace and am fulfilled as a result of this. It also ensures that I don’t just waste the day away doing things that aren’t enhancing my life or bringing me joy.

All of these things on my list have one thing in common. They are things that I want to do and that I believe bring me the most joy every single day. And isn’t that what life is? A collection of days that over time lead to something amazing. I’m not saying that every day will be an amazing day. There will be hard days. Horrible days. Days where you do not feel like doing any of the stuff on your list. And that is okay.

That is why you should consider every day a gift. Every day is a new chance to improve, to grow and to do things that make you happy. Every time the sun comes up is a new opportunity to turn things around, to try that new thing you’ve always wanted to try, to tell that person how you feel, to do things that truly bring you peace and joy. Imagine doing that for a week, for a month or for a year. Imagine doing the things that bring you joy or that you are passionate about every day for 10 years. What a beautiful life that would be. Live every day like it is your last. It very well might be. If it’s not, you will have years and decades of discipline, love, joy and fulfillment as a result of living this way.

Time is the one thing that even the rich can’t buy. It is running out for all of us, whether we accept it or not. You hear stories about people who write a bucket list when they are diagnosed with a terminal illness. One year to live, maybe a few months. The bucket list is written so they can savour every moment left on earth. We should all be living this way. We should not wait for the diagnosis because we all have this diagnosis already. Death is awaiting us all at some point. We may live to be eighty but tomorrow might be our last day. Today might be. So wouldn’t you rather live every day like it’s your last? 80 years of this will lead to an extraordinary life, full of amazing times, great relationships and zero regrets.

I don’t want to die tomorrow but I have accepted that it may happen. I am at peace with that. So today, I will hug my wife and kids so tight, tell them I love them, take risks, go all in, do what makes me happy and live like there is no tomorrow. I will complete my daily mission. I will workout. I will read. I will go for a long walk with my wife and dog. I will work hard. I will be a good man. I won’t wait. Tomorrow may not arrive, so I’ll do as much as I can today. And tomorrow I’ll do the same thing, if it arrives. If it does arrive, I will be so grateful for it and everything I have in my life.

Live for today. Do that every day and you will have a collection of great days, which leads to a great life.
